I've thought for a while that I'd like a place to write about Harry Potter, separate from my on-line journal that is intended for more general things going on in my life. It will be a while before I really have much of a chance to post here, but until then, I'll just say that I first discovered the Harry Potter books in the late spring of 1999. I read a newspaper article about a popular children's book that some people in the United States wanted to ban. Well, of course, I headed off to the book store that afternoon and bought the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, (properly named by author J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I saw nothing wrong with the book then, nor do I with any of them.
They are delightful, funny, sometimes serious, sometimes, sad, mysterious, scary, full of fascinating characters. They tell the classic story of good versus evil, with clear moral choices facing the hero, Harry Potter, and his friends, Ron and Hermione. Each book has become more complex as the characters have grown older, and that is really part of the wide appeal of these books to so many ages and so many people around the world.
Well, that's enough for a start. More to come later.
Why "Eeyore's Reflections"? Eeyore is a name I've been using for quite a while. It started when I needed name to use at day camp as a camp counselor. When I first ventured onto a Harry Potter Forum 5 years ago, I needed a screen name and Eeyore seemed the most obvious choice. Since then I've used it on other forums as well as a live journal that I also have. It has become a comfortable name; it feels like it's a part of me. Eeyore is my favorite Winnie the Pooh character as he is the one who grumbles around and reminds me to not take myself so seriously and to laugh and look for the bright side rather than moan about life's troubles. But mostly, on-line, it is a name that I've used so much that I just can't imagine not using it.
